Patton G.SHDSL CPE Modem Delivers First-Mile Ethernet Services at up to 22.8 Mbps September 14, 2009
Extending Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) services up to 1.6 miles/2.6 kilometers over existing copper bundles, Patton’s
RocketLink™ Model 3202 EFM Network Termination Unit (NTU) delivers nx64 rates up to 22.8Mbps.

GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton—the leader in business and carrier-class network access, connectivity, VoIP and triple-play equipment—is now taking orders for the
RocketLink™ Model 3202 G.SHDSL EFM Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) modem for carriers, service providers and enterprises.
By installing the RocketLink™ EFM CPE on customer premises, service providers can quickly and cost-effectively roll-out profitable broadband Ethernet services to businesses, governments, schools, and other organizations.
“RocketLink™ technology preserves capital investment,” said Johnnie Grant, Product Manager, “by enabling operators to deliver new revenue-generating services with the infrastructure they already have.”
Patton’s EFM NTU eliminates the trouble and expense of installing fiber-optic cable by using existing, pre-installed bundles of twisted-pair cable to deliver broadband network access in the first mile.
Compliant with ITU-T G.991.2 and IEEE 802.3ah, Patton’s 3202 G.SHDSL.bis EFM (also known as 2Base-TL) CPE offers the superior reliability of Ethernet connectivity with unmatched rate and reach.
Using EFM Bonding (IEEE 802.3ah PAF) to combine up to four copper pairs (8 wires) into a single communications channel, the RocketLink™ Model 3202 EFM modem employs Ethernet over SHDSL (EoSHDSL) to extend connections up to 1.6 miles/2.6km at symmetrical nx64 rates up to 22.8 Mbps.
“Ethernet has grown well beyond traditional local-area and enterprise-centric applications,” Mr. Grant continues. “Ethernet as a WAN and network-access technology is an expanding reality.”
By resolving a primary deficiency in carrier networks—the lack of interworking arrangements among Frame Relay, TDM, ATM, and xDSL—the Model 3202 reduces OPEX and CAPEX for service providers.
Because EFM technology (also known as pure Ethernet) is more efficient and reliable than alternative protocol combinations, service providers can focus on generating revenue with differentiated services rather than troubleshooting protocol interworking issues.
The RocketLink 3202 features an on-board 4-port fast-Ethernet switch with QoS and CoS. VLAN (802.1q) supports 4 levels of priorities, traffic flow control, and rate control.
Built-in operational, administration and maintenance (OAM) capabilities include password protected WEB GUI and CLI management interfaces, making it easy for carriers and service providers to provision differentiated services and/or service level agreements (SLAs) within their existing OAM systems and policies.
