Ethernet Extension >Serial Bridge |
A serial bridge is designed to transmit multi-point serial communications across a network.
Serial data transfer is the transmission of one bit at a time. A
serial bridge operates by connecting several serial devices simultaneously. There are a variety of serial devices that can be used in conjunction with a serial bridge including, modems, sensors, card readers, and printers.
With serial Ethernet
bridges, it is possible to interconnect remote branches to a main office LAN. This is accomplished through
a technique known as E1
remote
router porting and
T1
remote router porting .
Remote router porting can extend a connection across great
distances from a home router's serial or WAN port to a
remote-site network. Of course, a serial bridge is only one of the many devices created to
expand the communication possibilities serial data transfer can
offer.
Patton, the industry leader in network access and connectivity
technologies, offers a wide range of serial data transfer
devices as part of a catalog that exceeds 500 products. Patton
products are user-friendly with unique features ideal for network
efficiency. Most are compatible with both Patton and third-party
equipment and many are
plug-and-play. Patton's serial-to-parallel converters automatically configure themselves for serial-to-parallel or parallel-to-serial data conversions.
With Patton's high-speed serial extenders, connections to serial
devices can be extended to up to five miles over ordinary voice-grade twisted-pair without the use of repeaters. These miniature devices can be connected directly to a serial port. They can be configured to various asynchronous or synchronous line rate settings. To learn more about what Patton has to offer, check out the extensive online
catalog at www.patton.com.
