Ultra-High-Speed Ethernet Extender Extends Patton’s CopperLink™ Line
The CopperLink™ Model 2172 achieves 50-Mbps symmetrical line rates that enable streaming-media and triple-play services over common copper wire.
CopperLink™. . . Going the distance
GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton Electronics — the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions — is now taking orders for their new 50-Mbps Ethernet Extender, the CopperLink™ Model 2172.
For such bandwidth-intensive applications as medical imaging, streaming music, Voice-over-IP, and triple-play, the ultra-high-speed CopperLink™ reduces the cost and complexity of the required network infrastructure. The Model 2172 delivers a full-duplex symmetrical or asymmetrical connection over common voice-grade copper at speeds up to 50 Mbps, eliminating the need for expensive fiber-optic or CAT5e cabling.
"It goes way beyond speed,” said John Grant, product manager for the CopperLink™ brand. “You’ve got proven reliability, plug-and-play convenience… the whole package. Our line rate selection makes it the most versatile Ethernet Extender out there. You can drop this box into any network environment and just watch it work.”
Patton has built Ethernet extenders in the USA since before the new millennium. CopperLink™ models are currently operating in nuclear power plants, submarines, sports arenas, election systems, and many other environments. CopperLink™ even enables a webcam located in a rock ’n’ roll celebrity museum.
An auto-sensing 10/100, full/half-duplex Ethernet interface avoids common installation problems, making the Model 2172 easy to install. The device also features a built-in automatic MDI-X mechanism that eliminates confusion over which Ethernet cable to use — crossover or straight-through.
Six selectable line rates allow operators to maximize reach and rate of each connection within the noise-level constraints of the installed environment. Asymmetrical rate selections are carefully designed for such applications as streaming music and video-on-demand. Symmetrical rate selections allow network administrators to choose the best possible speed-and-distance combination for such business-class applications as high-resolution imaging and Voice-over-IP.
The 2172 (with other CopperLink™ models) is available in Patton’s EnviroNET™ NEMA4-compliant, environmentally hardened enclosures. Suitable for installation in offshore oil rigs, pit mines, railway beds, and other harsh environments, EnviroNET™ enclosures protect network equipment against high wind, precipitation, salt spray, sand, oil, corrosive chemicals, and ice. EnviroNET™ solutions deliver communications services (Ethernet-over-copper, commercial/outdoor VoIP, T1/E1 extension, and others) in temperatures ranging from -40 to +185°F (-40 to +85°C).
“Breaking boundaries is our business,” said Burton A. Patton, Executive Vice President. “We’re committed to it. Ever since we created the Ethernet Extender, Patton engineering has been constantly and continuously improving it. With each new model, we take communications technology faster and farther.”
Patton brought the first Ethernet extender to market in 1990’s. Branded LAN-Xtend™, the Model 2111 achieved 2.3 Mbps over single twisted-pair. In 2002, Patton released the award-winning CopperLink™ Model 2158 that achieved speeds of over 10 Mbps and reached up to 4656 feet (1372 meters). Now, the CopperLink™ Model 2172 achieves speeds up to 50 Mbps and distances up to 6000 feet (1,820 meters), delivering industry-leading, state-of-the-art Ethernet extension.
