New Patton Ethernet Booster Extends PoE up to Five Times the Standard Reach2.23.2009 The micro-sized CopperLink™ Model 2110 Ethernet Booster cuts infrastructure costs and simplifies deployment of Wireless Access Points (WAPs), IP cameras and VoIP handsets by extending IEEE 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) up to 5 times the standard reach. GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton—the leader in business and carrier-class network access, connectivity, Voice-over-IP and triple-play equipment—announces their latest innovation in network extension—the CopperLink™ Model 2110 Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Booster series. Patton’s Ethernet Booster transparently extends 100-Mbps Ethernet traffic along with IEEE 802.3af PoE up to 200 meters (656 feet)—twice as far as the 100-meter (328-feet) standard. With multiple Ethernet Boosters installed in a “daisy chain,” Patton’s model 2110 extends PoE up to 500 meters (1640 feet)—five times the standard reach Because it eliminates the need for UPS equipment for power injection or additional Ethernet switches for signal regeneration, the micro-sized device reduces infrastructure costs and streamlines network installation when deploying VoIP handsets, IP cameras, PoE Wireless Access Points (WAPs), and any other LAN device. “Ethernet anywhere,” said Johnnie Grant, Product Manager, “is what Patton is all about. Patton has been breaking Ethernet distance barriers since the 1990’s. Now, with the Model 2110, Patton’s CopperLink™ technology has done it again. We’re still bending the rules on where Ethernet devices can be deployed.” The Ethernet Booster, which operates over CAT5 (or greater) cabling, is the newest member of Patton’s award-winning CopperLink™ Ethernet Extender product line. Where power is not required at the end of the connection, a chain of six 2110s can extend Ethernet up to 600 meters (1968 feet). “IP-enabled security cameras are useless,” Mr. Grant continued, “if you can’t see your target. Proper IP-camera placement is absolutely critical. What if the right location is more than 100 meters from your Ethernet switch? What if it’s not cost-effective or feasible to install UPS systems? The CopperLink Ethernet Booster solves two key challenges with one small device.” Providing 100-Mbps Ethernet Extension combined with PoE pass-through, the Model 2110 is transparent to WMV, MPEG-4, and MJPEG compression schemes and fully compatible with any standards-based PoE WAP, IP camera, or VoIP handset. During 3–8 March 2009, Patton will showcase the Model 2110, as well as Patton’s other benchmark-setting CopperLink™ products at CeBIT, Hall 13, Booth A58. About CopperLink™ Ethernet Extenders Patton brought the first Ethernet extender to market during the 1990s. Branded LAN-Xtend™, the Model 2111 achieved 2.3 Mbps over single twisted-pair. In 2002, Patton released the award-winning CopperLink™ Model 2158 that achieved speeds of over 10 Mbps and reached up to 4656 feet (1372 meters). Now, the CopperLink™ Model 2172 achieves speeds up to 50 Mbps full-duplex and distances reaching up to 6000 feet (1,820 meters), for industry-leading, state-of-the-art Ethernet extension. Patton has built Ethernet extenders in the USA since the 1990s. CopperLink™ models are currently operating in nuclear power plants, submarines, sports arenas, election systems, a rock 'n' roll celebrity museum, and many other environments.
