The Patton Model 580R8 and 580R16 surge protectorpanels install at barriers (building entrances, between floors, electricalpanels) to guard either eight or sixteen Category 5 equipment ports againstdamage and data loss due to transient surges. Topologies protected by thePatton Models 580R8 and 580R16 include Fast Ethernet (100BaseT), 100VG-AnyLan,ATM and RS-422. Measuring 2U (3.5") high and 1.1" deep, the Patton Models 580R8 and 580R16 aredesigned to mount in a standard 19" rack. The Model 580R8 featuresfront-loaded RJ-48S ports for up to eight Category 5 cable connections (eightinputs/eight outputs). The Model 580R16 supports sixteen Category 5 I/Oconnections. Both models have been tested to withstand IEC 801.5 Class 3surges (2 kV). Harmful surge energy is diverted to chassis ground, and awayfrom sensitive 100Mhz equipment, through a heavy-duty braided metal strap. The Patton Models 580R8 and 580R16 are EIA/TIA TSB-40A Category 5 certified,and also comply with IEC standards 801.2, 801.4 and 801.5 (both units are CEmarked for sale in EC member countries). Near End Crosstalk (NEXT) is betterthan -43 dB at 100 Mhz. Insertion loss is less than 0.4 dB at 100 Mhz, makingthe units appear to the network as a few inches of Category 5 cable.
