Universal Short Haul Goes up to 16.5 Miles/26.6 km10.16.1998 GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, USA, October 16, 1998 - Patton Electronics Company has announced a new short range modem that supports point-to-pointcommunication at distances up to 16.5 miles/26.6 km over a 2-wire(half-duplex) or 4-wire (full or half-duplex) 19AWG/.9mm twisted pair line.The Patton Model 1080A-64 "Universal" Short Range Modem (so-called becauseit combines almost all of Patton's short range modem features into a singleproduct) is able to connect routers, multiplexers, servers, data acquisition& control hardware or other devices over private campus wiring ormetropolitan leased lines. Supporting synchronous or asynchronous RS-232data rates of 16, 32 or 64 kbps, the Model 1080A-64 operates inpoint-to-point or multipoint environments. The Model 1080A-64 communicates synchronously between the local and remotemodems; asynchronous end-to-end communication is accomplished using abuilt-in async-to-sync converter. Automatic equalization and gain controlcontribute to the Model 1080A-64's enhanced distance capabilities.Signal integrity is protected by an anti-streaming timer (guards againstdata streaming), 1500V RMS transformer isolation (guards against groundlooping) and high speed surge protection (guards against transients).Built-in diagnostics include V.54 compliant loopback tests, a V.52 biterror rate pattern generator/detector, and six front panel LEDs (TD, RD,RTS, DCD, error and test). Clocking is switch selectable for internal,external or receive recovered. Measuring only 6.2"W x 4.2"D x 1.5"L (15.7 x 10.7 x 3.8 cm), the Model1080A-64 is powered by an external 120V or 230V power supply. TheModel 1080A-64 provides one DB-25F for DTE equipment connection andboth RJ-45 and terminal block for 2/4-wire twisted pair connection.The Model 1080A-64 is compatible with Patton's Model 1080ARC mini rackcard modem and Model 1040 plug-in modem.
