Surge Protectors for Telco Lines10.27.1997 GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, October 27, 1997 - Patton Electronics Company has recently unveiled a series of secondary surge protectors for telco lines.The Patton Model 552 Series contains seven different versions forprotection of T1, E1, PRI, ISDN/U, ISDN/ST, DDS, 2-wire dial-up and2/4-wire leased line telco circuits. Installing between an incoming telcoline and a modem, CSU/DSU or similar device, the Patton Model 552 Seriesguards sensitive hardware against damage from nearby lightning strikes,electric motors or other sources of transient surges. The Patton Model 552 Series is equipped with modular (RJ-ll or RJ-45)input/output jacks plus a sturdy metal braided strap. Harmful transientenergy is intercepted before it can cause hardware damage and safelydiverted to nearby chassis ground through the metal strap. The PattonModel 552 Series is UL 497A listed for secondary surge protection, and isable to handle repeated surges up to 1500 watts. The "fail safe" designfeature of the Patton Model 552 Series causes the protector to fail shortto ground in the event of a catastrophic surge, thereby sacrificing theprotector itself to save connected equipment. Pricing for the Patton Model 552 Series depends upon the type of interfaceand number of pins protected, and ranges from $39 to $89 per unit.
