Elastix-Patton system delivers a complete, fully-tested unified communications solution3.25.2011 By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor At ITEXPO East 2011 in Miami, TMC’s Patrick Barnard had an opportunity to talk with Jose Landivar, Elastix commercial director. >>Watch the video interview. Elastix is a developer of Web interfaces for Asterisk, the popular IP/PBX software. The company has a laudable and noble goal: “What we try to do is make it such an easy to use interface,” Landovar said, “so anybody can go out there and install their own PBX, without having to spend a million dollars.” The product has a feature set comparable to most others in the space, but at a lower price, and “we aim to beat them on some of their features,” according to Landovar. The company started in Ecuador, so it’s obviously strongest in the Latin American market, and is growing in Europe, Asia and the U.S. And if by “growth” one means downloads, Elastix is doing pretty well: “We hit a million downloads,” Landovar said, adding that the company will release the 3.0 version of the software later this year, which Elastix sees as its entry into the higher markets. The product is open source, which leads to a very distributed business model. Last month TMC’s Charles West wrote that Patton, a provider of business and carrier-class network access, connectivity, VoIP and mobile video-surveillance equipment, announced its alliance with Elastix in an open source unified communications distribution. Promoting their mutually-certified unified communications offering, both companies exhibited together at ITEXPO East. West wrote: "The certified-interoperable Patton-Elastix platform features Patton’s SmartNode VoIP gateway-routers and interoperates with the Elastix open source iPBX and such related functional modules as call center, CRM, e-mail and fax." “By partnering with Patton, Elastix now offers its community of developers and integrators a whole new set of features and innovations that will add value to customer products," West added. According to West, "The integrated Elastix-Patton system delivers a complete, fully-tested unified communications solution with greatly expanded capabilities at the network edge.” David Sims is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
