Patton Acquires Digi DataFire RAS12.3.2001 Digi International Reaches Definitive Agreement to Sell DataFire Remote Access Server Business
"The decision to sell the DataFire RAS business is consistent with our strategy of focusing on Connectware growth markets," said Joe Dunsmore, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Digi International. "This is a win-win deal because Patton is the right company to acquire this business. The customer is always a beneficiary of strong business relationships between technology leaders and we expect the transition to be seamless, without disrupting customer service, supply chain or support infrastructures," said Dunsmore. "Today we're acquiring Digi's DataFire RAS business to establish ourselves in the Server-based RAS marketplace with a proven, world class product line," said Burt Patton, Executive Vice President of Patton. "Our Chassis-based RAS product is one of Patton's most successful product lines to date, so we are naturally pleased to further our leadership position in the RAS market as a full service Network Access equipment provider" said Patton. Patton currently offers a complete RAS Product Family that scales from 16 to 120 ports in the industries' highest-density 1U chassis--addressing the dial-up and DSL needs for Carrier, ISP and co-location customers deploying IP services. The DataFire RAS is a scalable Server-Based Remote Access Concentrator for Analog and Digital Connections. The DataFire Family of DSP (Digital Signal Processor) based RAS concentrator adapters provide the widest compatibility and most powerful performance available in a PCI RAS card. The DataFire RAS steps up to demanding server-based applications including modem pooling, remote access, advanced fax, and branch office internetworking. Supporting densities from eight to 60 ports in a single PCI slot, the DataFire can also be upgraded for additional capacity as needed. The DataFire RAS supports a full range of connections, from medium-density Basic Rate Interface (BRI) ISDN, to high-density T1/E1 and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) ISDN. Multiple DataFire RAS PCI cards can be installed in a single server so capacity can be added as the requirements grow.
