FIPS 140-2 VALIDATED

FIPS 140-2 compliance further establishes Patton as a trusted solution provider to government, including federal, state, and local agencies.

GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton—a US manufacturer of Unified Communications and Secure Telephony products—announces integration of federally-validated Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) cryptography across its entire line (over 30 SKUs) of Voice-over-IP products including SmartNode VoIP Gateways and SBCs and Tone Commander secure SIP phones.

Implementing (FIPS 140) into communication technologies ensures that sensitive data remains secure and confidential.

Patton’s FIPS-compliance announcement comes in the wake of security breaches recently disclosed by CoinDCX, Ring security cameras, and the US National Guard.

FIPS compliance is considered important—if not required—within many markets including government, finance, and healthcare.

FIPS 140-2 Security and Encryption

Up to Date. Patton’s updated FIPS release uses most current OpenSSL 3.0 with the most current cryptographic algorithms, including ciphers, hash functions, and key lengths. Patton is also ready to implement FIPS 140-3.

Trusted. FIPS compliance further establishes Patton as a trusted solution provider to government, including federal, state, and local agencies, as well as contractors and government-related or otherwise-regulated organizations that handle sensitive information—such as educational, financial, and medical institutions.

Standard. FIPS 140 is a US standard established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for validated cryptography.

Required. Many Government bodies are required to adhere to FIPS 140-2 and comply with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA). Organizations required to be HIPAA-compliant must use FIPS-validated devices.

Key Advantages of Patton’s FIPS 140-2 implementation:

  • Better Security.

  • Reduced Risk of breaches, tampering and attacks when you adhere to FIPS standards. Hackers collect unencrypted data to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information. FIPS 140-2 and 140-3 to protect against tampering and physical attacks, by incorporating physical security measures that make it harder for malicious actors to compromise the module.

  • Simple and Easy. Full compliance with FIPS simplifies the process of demonstrating adherence to security standards, eases audit burdens, avoids potential penalties and enriches customer-confidence.

  • Widely Deployed across the Patton SmartNode and Tone Commander product portfolio including hundreds of Networking and Telephony (VoIP/SIP) products.

In related news, Patton recently released its new Data Diode software to control data transport over secure one-way data diodes.
