New, Compact, Low-cost G.703/G.704 Converter4.18.2000 Patton's G.703/G.704 Access Converter Provides E1/Fractional E1 Network Termination And Serial Or Ethernet LAN Interface Conversion GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, April 18, 2000--Patton Electronics Company has announced a compact G.703/G.704 Access Converter that provides Fractional E1 (n x 64kbps) and E1/2.048 Mbps Network Termination as well as serial or Ethernet LAN interface conversion in a standalone or rack mount package. The Patton Model 2701 G.703/G.704 Converter is available in four versions: X.21, V.35, EIA-530, and 10Base-T. The Model 2701 receives channelized (framed) G.704 (n x 64kbps) or clear channel E1/G.703 (2.048Mbps) data from the Telco's digital data network. The Model 2701 terminates the G.703 Telco interface and converts the data for transmission to a user-oriented serial [X.21, V.35, and EIA-530 (V.36/RS422)] or 10Base-T (802.3) Ethernet interface. The 2701 can connect to a Router, FRAD, PABX, or Multiplexer over a serial interface at data rates up to 2 Mbps. It also connects directly to a 10-Mbps Ethernet LAN. The Model 2701 is intended for carriers who want to terminate their digital leased lines with DTE-ready physical and electrical interfaces. The Ethernet ("I") version of the Model 2701 supports an integrated 10Base-T (802.3) Ethernet port and transparent bridging capability for IP, IPX, DECnet, NetBIOS and other layer-3 protocols. Carriers use the integrated Ethernet port with bridging functionality to reduce the need for technicians to configure remote devices, continually update routing tables, and manage additional boxes. The 2701 attaches to the LAN and intelligently bridges data traffic to the large central site router through the Telco's leased-line network. Since the Model 2701 supports Fractional E1/G.704 (n x 64kbps), each office can purchase only the bandwidth needed for that remote site. Now, remote users, workstations, and servers on Ethernet LANs can be connected across a G.703/G.704 leased line network with one low-cost, user-friendly converter. Local management of the Model 2701 Converter is provided via DIP switches. Front panel LEDs monitor the G.703 link, Ethernet LAN and serial ports for status and Loss of Sync. The 2701 also includes toggle switches to initiate V.54 BERT and remote loopback tests. In the Ethernet version, collision detection software provides diagnostic information through the LEDs or remotely through the network management system (for the rack version). With its release, the Model 2701 joins PATTON's existing converters (NTUs)--the 2703 (E1/G.703) and 2715 (Fractional E1/G.704 in a micro package) which are approved for connection to G.703 networks worldwide. For synchronous, leased-line connections for the last mile, PATTON has the solution.
