Patton Announces OEM Module

In a move that could make life easier for manufacturers of data communications equipment, Patton has announced the availability of a G.703 OEMmodule. The Patton Model IM703 connects directly to either 120 ohm or 75 ohm 2.048 Mbps networks and converts the signals to TTL/HCMOSlevels for use in a variety of OEM hardware applications. Patton currently incorporates the Model IM703 into their standalone Model 2703 andrackmount Model 2703RC digital access products.

The key advantage of the Model IM703 is that it includes both 75 ohm (dual coax BNCs) and 120 ohm (single modular RJ-45 jack ) G.703 interfaces inone compact module. This enables the host product incorporating the Model IM703 to connect to either type of 2Mbps G.703 network, dependingupon the country and/or service provider involved.

Measuring approximately 2.5" x 2.5" x 0.8" (excluding coax connectors), the Model IM703 is a "daughterboard" that plugs into a PC board mounted26-pin header-type interface on the host. Power requirements are 5V (+/- 5%) and 150 mA. The Model IM703 may be configured to derive clock fromthe network input ("slave" mode), or to act as the clock "master". In slave mode, data and clock are passed by the Model IM703 directly to the host (nobuffering is provided). In master mode (which may be enabled by the Model IM703 control lines), data and clock are recovered from the network inputand passed to the host.
