High Speed Surge Protectors Guard LANS & WANS 6.6.1997
GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, June 6, 1997 - Patton Electronics Company has announced shipment of two data line surge protectors designed to guardlocal and wide area networks against data loss and damage due to transientsurges. The Patton Model 537 connects to IBM token ring LAN hardware thatis equipped with an IBM data connector. The Patton Model 546 connects toV.35 WAN hardware equipped with an M/34 connector. Both models divertharmful surge energy to chassis ground before damage can occur.Token Ring LAN Protection The Patton Model 537 token ring surge protector is equipped with two IBMdata connectors, each at the end of a 6" (15.4 cm) cable. Installingin-line between IBM computing hardware (such as a PC/AT, PS/2 or AS/400host) and the token ring LAN, the Patton Model 537 intercepts data linetransients and diverts them to chassis ground through the connectorshields. The Patton Model 537 protects all four lines on the IBM dataconnector, and is able to withstand repeated surges up to 1500 Watts.Supporting data rates up to 16 Mbps, the Patton Model 537 operatestransparently and will not hinder network performance. Furthermore, thePatton Model 537 provides balanced, 3-mode protection: line-to-ground,ground-to-line and line-to-line. This feature allows the Patton Model 537to protect connected equipment against surges that originate from differentpoints on network. The Patton Model 537 is manufactured in the USA, and islist priced at $59 each. Product is shipping now. V.35 WAN Protection The Patton Model 546 V.35 surge protector is designed for in-lineconnection to bridges, routers, multiplexers, CSU/DSUs and other WANhardware equipped with an M/34 (V.35) data interface. Supporting datarates up to 20 Mbps, the Patton Model 546 intercepts harmful transients anddiverts them to ground via a heavy-duty braided metal strap. The PattonModel 546 is able to handle repeated surges of 1500 Watts, and istransparent to the network while operating. The Patton Model 546 protectsall necessary data, clocking and control signals (19 pins total) on the"standard" V.35 interface. (An optional version, the Patton Model 546/34protects all 34 pins on the M/34 connector.) The fail-safe design of thePatton Model 546 causes all signals to be diverted to ground in the eventof a catastrophic surge above the rated capacity of the protector. Likethe Patton Model 537 (above), the Model 546 provides balanced, 3-modeprotection of connected equipment against surges originating from differentpoints on the network. The Patton Model 546 measures 3.93" (10 cm) long x2.0" (5.1 cm) wide x 0.9" (2.3 cm) deep, and is manufactured in the USA.List price for Patton Model 546 (19 pins protected) is $169 each. ThePatton Model 546/34 (all 34 pins protected) is list priced at $199 each.Product is shipping now.
