Shandong P&T Selects Patton Baseband Modems4.17.1998 GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, USA, April 17, 1998 - Patton Electronics Company has just announced that Shandong Post & Telecommunication, P.R. China, has selected Patton baseband modems to provide "last mile" access in its provincial level DDN infrastructure. Patton 1090 Series baseband modems, supporting data rates from 64kbps to 512kbps, will be integrated into Shandong P&T's DDN infrastructure during 1998 as part of its Phase One upgrade plan. Patton's baseband modems were selected over several other competitors, and are the first US manufactured baseband modems to be chosen for installation in China. According to Mr. He, director of the Shandong P&T Bureau, "We like the smaller size of Patton's products, we trust the technology, and we think the marketing policy of Patton will protect the market here and provide good local support." Shandong is currently in the top five of China's 28 provinces for GDP. The $180,000 contract for Patton baseband modems was awarded by Shandong P&T to Fuzhou Comlink, a systems integrator headquartered in Fuzhou (Comlink's parent company, Gold-Tech, Inc, was recently awarded a $20M contract for construction of a national Frame Relay network in China). Comlink will also be awarded the contract for Phase Two of Shandong P&T's DDN infrastructure upgrade. When the upgrade is completed, Shandong P&T expects to realize a 50% increase in digital communication capacity. This increase in capacity should accommodate anticipated demand for Internet and data communications services throughout the province. The current capacity of Shandong's DDN infrastructure is 3,000 ports. Burton A.
