Patton RAS adds Drop & Insert Capability4.17.1998 GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, April 17, 1998 - Patton Electronics Company has announced the addition of a drop and insert capability to the Patton 2800 Remote Access Server. This addition allows the Patton 2800 to support both voice and data access on a single T1 or E1 connection. The Patton 2800 is a "combo" access device, combining CSU, router, multi-modem and terminal server functions into one compact box (1.75" high, 17" wide and 8" deep). Connecting to a T1 line, the Patton 2800 is able to answer up to 24 V.34+ (33.6 kbps) modem calls or 24 ISDN B-channel (64 kbps) calls simultaneously. The E1 version of the Patton 2800 answers 30 simultaneous calls. Those calls are then routed as IP packets to an Ethernet LAN. In addition, a second T1/E1 port on the Patton 2800 connects to a PBX (the drop and insert function) and directs voice traffic onto one or more channels (DS0s) on the primary T1/E1 connection. The Patton 2800 supports SNMP (MIB2) management of all major functions. Built-in HTML/HTTP Web pages allow management to be performed from a workstation or PC running a Java-based Web browser (such as Netscape\ae or Explorer\ae). Direct Telnet management is also supported. If direct local configuration is required, a front panel serial connection (RS-232/VT-100) on the Patton 2800 supports menu-driven configuration of all parameters. Security features of the Patton 2800 include PAP, CHAP, RADIUS and static user authentication. Front panel LEDs monitor individual calls, as well as WAN and LAN connections and errors. Because the Patton 2800 is completely DSP (Digital Signal Processor) based, all upgrades\96including modem modulation\96can by performed by software alone. The Patton 2800's FLASH upgrade capability allows these upgrades to be performed remotely. This saves the cost and down-time of hardware upgrades, often required by analog/digital hybrid access devices. Planned software upgrades for the Patton 2800 include K56Flex and V.90 modem support, as well as Fractional PPP and Frame Relay support. Patton 2800 Pricing The Patton 2800 is equipped with two modular T1/E1 telco ports, one Ethernet LAN connection with 10Base-T and AUI ports, and one modular serial (RS-232) configuration port. A 100-240VAC universal input power supply is standard. With a hardware configuration of 12 DSPs (handles 12 calls or channels), the T1 and E1 versions of the Patton 2800 are list priced at $8,995 and $9,995 respectively. With a hardware configuration of 24 DSPs (handles 24 calls or channels), the T1 version of the Patton 2800 is list priced at $13,800. With a hardware configuration of 30 DSPs (handles 30 calls or channels), the E1 version of the Patton 2800 is list priced at $17,250. Software upgrades, as well as kits to install additional DSPs, are priced separately. The Patton 2800 is manufactured in the USA. All versions are shipping now.
