Patton Unveils Ethernet WAN Bridge Solution12.4.1997 GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, USA, December 4, 1997 - Patton Electronics Company has recently unveiled an Ethernet WAN bridge module for its QuikConnectSeries of access products-including the Patton KiloModem baseband modems,the Patton KiloLight fiber modems, and the Patton DigiLink-IV CSU/DSU.Designed for tool-free installation, the Patton Model IM1/I module adds anEthernet WAN bridge function to any of the Patton QuikConnect Seriesproducts. The Patton Model IM1/I module thereby allows a pair of PattonQuikConnect Series products to link two peered Ethernet LANs over 2/4-wireleased lines, a single multimode fiber or a 56/64 kbps DDS network. The Patton Model IM1/I module performs the bridging function at the MediaAccess Controller (MAC) level, and is transparent to higher level networkprotocols such as TCP/IP, DECnet(TM), NETBIOS and IPX. Only broadcasts,multicasts or frames destined for peered LANs are forwarded by the module.The Patton Model IM1/I is equipped with a 4096 MAC address table, 1 Mb ofonboard memory, and 512 frames of dynamic buffer. Throughput of the PattonModel IM1/I is dependent upon the maximum data rate of the PattonQuikConnect Series device into which the module is installed. However, thePatton Model IM1/I is designed to support data rates up to 2 Mbps.Throughput latency is 1 frame. The Patton Model IM1/I installs in the rear panel of any Patton QuikConnectSeries product, and attaches with two thumb screws-no tools are necessary.A single industry-standard RJ-45 jack is provided for connection to a10BaseT 802.3 Ethernet LAN. Dual LEDs on the Patton Model IM1/I monitorEthernet Link and CPU status. An automatic LAN table aging feature builtinto the Patton Model IM1/I causes address entries to be deleted after 8minutes of inactivity.
