2.3 Mbps mDSL Modem Operates on 2-Wires 12.18.1998
GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, USA, December 18, 1998 - Patton Electronics Company has announced a 2-wire multirate Digital Subscriber Line (mDSL) modem that supports selectable data rates from 64 kbps to 2.3 Mbps. The Patton Model 1095 NetLink mDSL modem is available in three versions: Model 1095-T1 (64 kbps to 1.536 Mbps), Model 1095-E1 (64 kbps to 2.048 Mbps) and Model 1095-CampuS (64 kbps to 2.304 Mbps). All three versions use CAP line encoding to achieve 2-wire distances up to 5.5 miles/8.9 km (2B1Q line encoding is optional). The Model 1095 is intended for deployment by carriers and ISPs to deliver high speed digital services over 2-wire local loop circuits.QuikConnect Plug-in Modules One distinguishing feature of the Model 1095 is its use of plug-in modules for connection to routers, switches, multiplexers, servers or other customer hardware. Standard interface modules include V.35, X.21, V.24/RS-232, G.703 and RS-422/530. Two multi-function modules are also available for the Model 1095: Patton's Ethernet Bridge module(Model IM1/I) incorporates transparent bridging so that two peered Ethernet LANs can be connected over a leased line. Patton's Voice/Fax/Data module (Model IM1/J) multiplexes two analog voice lines (or one voice/one G3 fax) and one high speed data line onto a single 2-wire circuit. Because of its support for data rates up to 2.3 Mbps, the Model 1095-CampuS\97when used with the Model IM1/J\97can simultaneously transmit both voice and fax signals, as well as 2.048 Mbps data, on the same 2-wire line. An additional benefit of the Model IM1/J is that a separate POTS splitter is not needed. High Density mDSL Rack Card For Central Office/ISP applications, the NetLink mDSL is available in a high density 2U high, 16-slot rack mount format. Each Model 1095RC rack card measures 3.5" (8.89cm) high, allowing 32 mDSL modems to fit in 7" (17.78cm) of vertical rack space. The rack can be powered by a 90-260VAC or -48VDC single (or optional dual-redundant) power supply. The addition of a Model 1000MC SNMP proxy agent card allows remote management of one rack of 15 Model 1095RC modem cards, as well as 15 connected standalone mDSL modems (additional racks of mDSL modem cards may be managed using one Model 1000CC daisy-chain management card per rack). The Model 1000MC has an Ethernet connection and a built-in Web server, so SNMP/HTTP remote management of Model 1095 rack cards and standalone units may be performed from anywhere in world using a PC with a standard Web browser. Model 1095 Details The Model 1095 supports synchronous, full duplex communication over oneunconditioned twisted pair. Clocking is user selectable for internal, external or receive recovered (network) clock. Diagnostics include V.54 loops (LLB, RDL) and a V.52 compliant BER test pattern generator/detector (511/511E). Front panel LEDs include TD, RD, CTS, CD, DTR, Error, Test Mode and No Signal. A front panel control port on the standalone Model 1095 allows local configuration and control using a VT100 ASCII terminal. 2500VRMS transformer isolation guards against ground loops. Applications The Model 1095 is designed to deliver high speed data and data/voice services in environments where unconditioned twisted pair is available. The radius of service can be up to 5.5 miles/8.9km. This includes use by a carrier or ISP to deliver high speed data service to a customer over the local loop (Model 1095-T1, Model 1095-E1), or use by a corporation for wide area networking in a leased line/campus environment (Model 1095-CampuS). When used by a carrier or ISP, the Model 1095RC will typically be deployedin a rack mount format at the carrier's Telecommunications Exchange (Central Office), or at the ISP's Point-of-Presence. The Model 1095 standalone will typically be deployed at the customer site. When deployed by a corporation in a leased line/campus environment, applications for the Model 1095 include: use of the Model IM1/I Ethernet bridge module to connect peered LAN segments over several miles/kilometers; use of the Model IM1/J Voice/Fax/Data module to provide telephone, fax and high speed data connectivity between a branch office and corporate headquarters. This allows the branch office to access corporate PABX/voice/fax services, the corporate Intranet, and the Internet\97all over a single 2-wire leased line. Price and Delivery The Patton Model 1095 NetLink mDSL modem is manufactured in the USA. List prices start around $1,000 for the T1 unit; interface modules are additional. Rack cards are similarly priced. Product is shipping now.
