The Patton Model 56X, 57X and 58X Series hub protectors connectin-line to multiport hubs and switches, providing protection for a highconcentration of data ports in a one-box, standalone solution.10Base-T Hub Protection
The Patton Model 56X Series multiport protectors are intended to connectin-line to 4, 6, 8 or 12-port Ethernet 10Base-T hubs and switches. A rowof modular RJ-45 jacks on the front of the protector receives short jumpercables from the 10Base-T hub or switch. A corresponding row of jacks onthe rear of the protector connects to the 10Base-T network cables(originally plugged into the hub or switch). In this manner, the PattonModel 56X Series unit stands between the hub/switch and the network, readyto intercept harmful transients before they can cause data loss or hardwaredamage. Each port of the Patton Model 56X Series protectsbi-directionally, and can withstand repeated surges of up to 1500 Watts.Surge energy is diverted to nearby chassis ground through a heavy dutybraided metal strap. The Patton Model 56X Series operates transparently,supporting network data rates up to 10 Mbps. The Patton Model 57X and 58X Series multiport protectors are available in4, 6 and 8-port versions, and operate in a manner that is physicallyidentical to the Patton Model 56X Series described above. The majordistinction is that the Patton Model 57X and 58X Series protectors supportdata rates up to 100 Mhz, and are EIA/TIA TSB-40A Category 5 certified.The Patton Model 57X and 58X Series protectors feature a Near End CrossTalk (NEXT) rating at better than -43 db, and an insertion loss of lessthan 0.4 db, for transparent operation in sensitive 100 Mhz applications.Each port of the Patton Model 57X and 58X Series protects bi-directionally,with surge energy being diverted to nearby chassis ground through a heavyduty braided metal strap. The Patton Model 57X Series is intended forpoint-of-use (equipment) applications, and has been tested to withstand IEC801.5 Level 1 surges of 1 kilovolts. The Patton Model 58X Series isintended for barrier applications (building entrances), and has been testedto withstand IEC 801.5 Level 2 surges of 2 kilovolts.
