Secure Universal Device Server Leads Patton's New Line12.16.2005 Patton's new web-manageable single-port device server securely connects any RS-485/422/232 device to any IP network. EtherBITS™. . . Connect with Confidence GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton Electronics—the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions—announces their new universal single-port device server featuring data encryption and secure HTTPS web management. The feature-rich Model 2285 connects any RS-485/422/232 device to an Ethernet LAN or WAN using a secure encrypted data stream. The Model 2285 is the first in a new set of products planned for Patton's EtherBITS™ series of single-port serial device servers. The new EtherBITS™ series offers network managers reliable and cost-effective solutions for connecting a vast range of serial devices (payment terminals, access-card readers, meters, sensors, etc.) to a private IP network or the Internet. The new EtherBITS™ device servers build on the popularity of Patton's tiny yet powerful Model 2120 single-port terminal server, as well as Patton's 20 years of experience in developing network-connectivity solutions. "Patton customers love the rich feature set, reliability, and quality of our Model 2120 Single-Port Terminal server," said John Grant, Patton's device-server product manager. "Our new device servers meet the same high standards people expect from Patton. By expanding our device-server solution set, we're giving our customers more choices." Combining such security options as SSH, SSL, and HTTPS with key-based 3DES and AES data encryption, the Model 2285 protects sensitive data from being intercepted during transmission with key strengths up to 256 bits. IP address filtering adds additional security by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access to networked devices. The Model 2285 includes a built-in DHCP client to streamline installation by automatically obtaining an IP address from a networked DHCP server. The device server is easy to configure and operate, offering such versatile management options as web browser, serial console, Telnet/SSH, and a built-in windows GUI utility. With built-in COM-port redirection software, the Model 2285, avoids the expense of an additional software license, which is often required to connect a device server to a PC’s COM port. The Model 2285's rich feature set also supports serial tunneling for point-to-point connections, virtual COM port, multiple access per port, port logging, multicasting, modem emulation, and many other applications.
