Patton signs OEM agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc.7.9.2003 GAITHERSBURG, Maryland - Patton Electronics (Maryland, USA) has signed an OEM Purchase Agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc. (California, USA). Patton has been creating a series of strategic relationships, building a strong technology base from which it will construct next-generation access networks for Carriers and large, private Enterprise WANs. In January, Patton announced its strategic relationship with Inalp Networks of Bern, Switzerland, a leading VoIP technology developer. Patton's relationship with Sun reveals another component in Patton's strategy to leverage its own products and integrate leading technology products into large, mission-critical network solutions. By forging close ties to respected technology suppliers, Patton will be well positioned to supply world-class network infrastructure products, systems, and solutions to its growing global customer base. Under the agreement Patton has been granted rights to re-market Sun products on a worldwide basis. Patton will be integrating Sun solutions into turnkey systems and will also incorporate select Sun products into Patton's new NMS platforms--including the Foresight 6200 Network Management Platform. Obliged under the agreement to deliver complete pre- and post-sales support to its customers, Patton will provide full services on Sun products (including installation and training, as well as hardware and software maintenance support). Patton is also authorized under this agreement to develop software utilizing Sun's Solaris Operating System (subject to various restrictions). "Sun is a recognized leader for Carrier management platforms and is a natural fit for Patton's next-generation Carrier access solutions." said Robert R. Patton, President of Patton Electronics Company. "These technologies will help Patton and its affiliates continue to penetrate Carriers and large enterprise customers around the world, " he continued. "Access to these powerful Sun platforms will bring our customers a new generation of best-in-class, highly manageable, ubiquitous network access systems," said Scott Whittle, Patton's Director of Product Management. Sun Microsystems, Inc., founded in 1982, designs, manufactures and sells network computing systems that include the SPARC line of workstations and multiprocessing servers used for technical, commercial, industrial, and software development applications. Sun develops software technologies such as Java, the first universal software platform, which enables developers to write applications once to run on any computer.
