Patton Unveils Industrial First-mile-Ethernet and Outdoor-VoIP Equipment at GlobalComm 20066.6.2006 At GlobalComm 2006, Patton displays rugged, NEMA4-compliant EnviroNET™ industrial Ethernet-in-the-first-mile and outdoor-VoIP solutions for harsh environments. GAITHERSBURG, MD: This week at GlobalComm 2006, Patton Electronics — the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions — is unveiling their new EnviroNET™ brand of NEMA4-compliant industrial-networking equipment. The new Patton product line for harsh-environment communications offers solutions for delivering commercial outdoor-VoIP, industrial Ethernet-in-the-first-mile, and other services. “Anybody can put a box in a clean room and call it 'industrial'," said Scott Whittle, VP of Product Management. ”How about an offshore oil rig, a gritty-hot pit mine, or a greasy railway bed? EnviroNET™ delivers network services anywhere. Our rugged NEMA4 enclosures deliver the secure, reliable communications our customers require.” Designed for extreme temperatures from -40° to 185°F (-40° to 85°C), EnviroNET™ gear lets network operators extend services to harsh indoor and outdoor environments where heating or cooling systems are unavailable or unpractical. EnviroNET™ enclosures protect sensitive network equipment against such damaging elements as high wind, precipitation, salt spray, dirt, sand, oil, corrosive chemicals, and external ice formation. “Everything-over-Ethernet,” said Johnnie Grant, product manager. “That’s where network infrastructure is going. Years ago we pioneered a technology for breaking the Ethernet distance barrier. Now we’re busting through environmental barriers—pushing Ethernet to even further extremes.” While a broad range of products is planned for the EnviroNET™ line, Patton is currently accepting orders for their industrial-grade EnviroNET™ Ethernet Extenders that extend 10/100Base-TX Ethernet in the first mile up to 5 miles (8 km) over 2-wire 24 AWG unconditioned copper twisted-pair lines. Patton is also taking orders for EnviroNET™ Voice-over-IP Gateways that convert FXS, FXO, and ISDN BRI circuits to state-of-the-art VoIP for such extreme applications as outdoor pay phones, utility-pole call-boxes, or mine-shaft hotlines where wireless is not an option.
