ForeFront FF5440 Mini Multi-Service Cross Connect and TDMoIP Access Node

This unique product combines a digital cross connect switch with a TDM over IP/Packet gateway enabling the grooming of T1 and sub-rate serial interfaces for transport across either TDM or Packet networks. Transport E1 ,T1, E&M, X.21, or RS232 data stream with timing information over PSN (Packet Switched Network) via Pseudowire– SAToP/CESoPSN/MEF8.

• TDMoIP Plus DACS - A unique combination of Cross Connect capabilities plus TDM over IP/Packet.
• Cross Connect Capability - Support full non-blocking DS0 cross connect matrix between TDM interfaces and TDMoE Pseudowires. Suitable for DACS (Digital Access Cross-Connect System) and ADCB (Add/Drop Channel Bank) applications.
• TDMoIP Pseudowires - Up to 16 concurrent Pseudowires. One (1) E1/T1 can support up to 16 Pseudowires.
• TDMoIP Protocols - – SAToP, CESoPSN, or MEF-8 (CESoETH). Packet Delay Variation Compensation Depth up to 256 ms.
• Flexible Clocking - Internal/Line, Adaptive Clock Recovery for TDM Pseudowires and SyncE. Jitter and Wander conforms to G.823/824 for Traffic Interface.
• Ethernet LAN & WAN - Four Ethernet ports software configurable for WAN or LAN including two Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) SFPs and two 10/100/1000 BaseT.
• Up to Ten (10) T1/E1 Ports - Two native (2) T1/E1, plus up to four (4) T1/E1 ports per module with a max of 2 modules providing a maximum capacity of ten (10) T1/E1 ports.
• Serial DTE modules - Each of the two slots can be populated with single port serial cards including X.21, RS232/V.24 or V.35
• Voice Modules - Each of the two slots can be populated with multi-port voice cards including four (4) E&M, FXS, or FXO ports.
• G.703 Modules - Each of the two slots can be populated with single-port G.703.
• Extensive QoS Services - Egress Rate Limiting per Ethernet port with 64kbps/1Mbps/10Mbps granularity. Ethernet Network Level: 3-bit Priority Code Point – PCP field within 802.1P/802.1Q Ethernet frame – CoS and 4 priority queues per port. IP Network Level: 6-bit DiffServ Code Point -DSCP field – ToS. Scheduling Algorithm Strict Priority (SP). PRoto Support C-VLAN/S-VLAN tag adding and removing on Pseudowire, 802.1q Port-Based VLAN on Ethernet/SNMP Port and 802.1d MAC Learning. Jumbo frame up to 10k bytes and Weighted Round Robin (WRR).
• L2 Switching - – VLAN with a maximum 4094 concurrent VLAN Groups.
• OA&M - E1/T1 OAM in accordance with RFC-2495: LOS, LOF, LCV*, RAI, AIS, FEBE*, BES, ES, SES, and UAS.

The ForeFront FF5440 is a modular TDM over IP/Ethernet Gateway with integrated TDM Cross Connect Switching capabilities enabling Service Providers to transport TDM and Packet traffic leveraging T1/E1 and Fractional T1/E1 and Gigabit Ethernet tributary ports.

This device enables transport and time-slot-cross-connected T1/FT1, E1/FE1, E&M, FXS, FXO, X.21, RS232 V.35, EIA530, and G.703 data streams with timing information over PSN (Packet Switched Network) using Pseudowire protocols such as SAToP, CESoPSN and MEF8.

The unit has two native T1/E1 interfaces and four Ethernet ports software configurable for WAN or LAN including two Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) SFPs and two 10/100/1000 BaseT. 

The device is equipped with two miniature slots capable of accepting various tributary interface cards including four-port T1/E1 Modules, various single-port serial DTE Modules (X.21, RS232/V.24 or V.35),  and various four-port Voice Modules (E&M, FXS, or FXO) as well as a single port G.703/ C37.94 Module.

Available Interface Modules:

The device supports full non-blocking DS0 cross connect matrix between TDM interfaces and TDMoE Pseudowires, making it suitable for DACS (Digital Access Cross-Connect System) and ADCB (Add/Drop Channel Bank) applications with automatic A-law/μ-law conversion.

Up to 16 concurrent Pseudowires are supported per device.  TDMoIP Protocols include SAToP, CESoPSN, or MEF-8 (CESoETH). Flexible clock timing including Internal/Line,  Adaptive Clock Recovery for TDM Pseudowires and SyncE are supported.  Jitter and Wander conforms to G.823/824 for Traffic Interface.
