ForeFront FF2410 Ethernet over E1 (IP-over-TDM) Bridging Gateway/Extender/Converter 1 E1 port

This device enables Ethernet to be Transported, Extended or “Bridged” over an E1 line. Like an Ethernet over E1 Inverse Multiplexer or Media Converter, Ethernet is connected back-to-back over an E1 circuit. The unit can be used in conjunction with the FF2460 to support point-to-multipoint Ethernet over E1 topologies.

Overview

The FF2410 Ethernet over E1 (IP-over-TDM) Bridging Gateway/Multiplexer enables Ethernet to be transported (bridged) over E1 lines.  Like an Ethernet to E1 Media Converter 10/100BaseT Ethernet is converted to E1 and then back to Ethernet on the other side.

The unit is a desktop model and is used in pairs, back-to-back.  Two FF2410 can be used together a FF2410 can be used with the FF2460 to support point-to-multipoint connections, where the FF2460 aggregates up to 16 E1s connecting to E1 distributed to multiple locations, creating an Ethernet WAN over TDM.

The unit is used like an Ethernet Extender leveraging legacy TDM telecom infrastructure (E1s, PDH/SDH, or Microwave) presenting E1 interfaces.   The FF2410 and FF2460 convert Ethernet data into the E1 frame format for transmission over TDM (E1) links and re-converts the E1 back into Ethernet data the far-end bridging the two Ethernet LANs over the TDM network. The device can utilize redundant bandwidth of telecom operators' existing TDM network to transport Ethernet data at a low cost.

The unit supports E1 Interfaces with 120ohm (Wire Pair) and 75ohm (Coax).  The Ethernet Interface options include either 10/100 Base-T Copper Ethernet or 100Base-FX Optical Ethernet over 850nm/1310nm/1550nm single mode optical fiber.

The units offer Monitoring and Alarming features and can be managed via a 10/100BaseT Ethernet management interface, RS-232 serial interface, via Remote (Telnet), Windows XP-based GUI, Windows 7 based GUI or with SNMP V2 Monitoring.  An optional NMS (Network Management System) is available for monitoring multiple units from a single / central location.

It comes with a single -48V DC or Universal AC Power.

Applications

Point to Point Applications.

Point to Multi-Point Application using the FF2410’s with the FF2460.

Features
  • Ethernet over E1/TDM - This Bridging Converter/Gateway/Multiplexer enables Ethernet to be transported (bridged) over E1 lines.
  • Point-to-Point or Point-to-Multipoint - Used in pairs, back-to-back supporting a point-to-point Ethernet link over one (1) E1 or used with a FF2460 to aggregate up to 16 E1s connecting to E1 distributed to multiple locations, creating an point-to-multipoint Ethernet network over TDM.
  • Simple Operation - The unit is used like an Ethernet Extender over TDM converting Ethernet data into the E1 frame format for transmission over TDM (E1) links and re-converts the E1 back into Ethernet data the far-end bridging the two Ethernet LANs over the TDM network.
  • E1 or Fractional E1 - Supports three modes including unframed, framed (CCS/PCM 31) and multiple framed (CAS/ PCM30).
  • Ethernet Features - Supports VLAN tagging, 802.1 based QoS feature with priority classification for incoming 802.1Q packets, IEEE 802.1p Class of Service traffic categorization, 802.1P priority classification for ingress packets
  • User Controls - Provides 4 different user selectable ratios (0:1, 1:2, 1:5 and 1:10) for delivery of high and low priority packets, User selectable ports for enabling / disabling the QoS service. Port based Ethernet limits allow a user to provide different speed for the different customers to utilize bandwidth according to their requirements.
  • Easy Ethernet Connectivity - Automatic Ethernet negotiation function. Supports 10M/100M and working modes of both full- duplex and half-duplex. Automatic straight and cross-over cable support (Auto-MDI/X). Available with MAC address list filtration, learning, and updating functions PAUSE flow control ability in full duplex mode.
  • Clocking - Supports two clock synchronization modes, Internal clock and Network clock (Loop-Timed clock).
  • Monitoring & Alarming - Indicators for Power and a General Alarm Indicator for E1 and Ethernet Link. Descriptive E1 alarm selected via DIP switch, E1 Alarm for individual E1 port (1-16), Code Violation History (CV_HIS) Alarm on E1 port, Loss Of Signal (LOS) Alarm on E1 port, Group ID (GID) mismatch alarm, and Generic Framing Procedure (GFP_LOF) Loss Of Frame Alarm. Ethernet Link Indicator, Ethernet Speed Indicator, and Ethernet History Error Alarm (ETH_ERR).
  • Configuration & Management - Managed via a 10/100BaseT Ethernet management interface, RS232 serial management interface via Remote (Telnet) management interface, Windows XP based Graphical User Interface (GUI), Windows 7 based Graphical User Interface (GUI) or SNMP V2 Monitoring. An optional NMS (Network Management System) is available for monitoring multiple units from a single / central location.
  • AC or DC Power - Available with -48V DC or Universal AC Power.
