The ForeFront, FF2510 Series is a dual-STM-1 Ethernet over SDH/SONNET (EoS) or IP-over-TDM Converter that uses Virtual Concatenation to transport Ethernet over the STM-1 lines.
Like an Ethernet over STM-1 Media Converter, Gigabit Ethernet is converted to STM-1 and then back to Ethernet on the other side. The device bridges Ethernet over one (1) or (2) STM-1 lines at 139 Mbps per line.
The unit is equipped with four (4) 10/100/100 full duplex Gigabit ethernet interfaces (IEEE802.3) including three (3) copper (RJ-45) and one (1) SFP fiber Ethernet interfaces.
The FF2510 Uses Virtual Concatenation Groups (VCG) to transport packet-based traffic over STM-1/SDH/SONNET. VC4s virtual containers can be used individually or virtually concatenated (VCAT) to form larger bandwidths.
Multiple configuration options allow the devices to support 1+1 optical path protection or 2+0 Link Aggregation. In 1+1 mode, the ethernet traffic is transported over two separate fiber paths simultaneously and the Ethernet interfaces share one VCG. In 2+0 link mode the ethernet traffic shares two VCG channels and the bandwidth is aggregated with two (2) VC4s using Generic Framing Procedure (GFP-F, ITU-T G.7041) and EoS to double throughput.
The two (2) STM-1 Hot pluggable optical interfaces use SFP optical modules (LC interface) with line rates of 155Mb/s. Achievable distances depend on the type of single mode SFP selected. Real-time detection for the status of optical module is supported along with Automatic Laser Shutdown (ALS) to protect operators and Remote Power down Detect (RPD) function.
The Ethernet Switch/Bridge functions support unicast, multicast and broadcast frame. The device also supports an 8K MAC address table with MAC address dynamic learning and 256 items static MAC address configuration. And it accepts frames with lengths between 64 and 1552/2048 bytes (otherwise filtering). VLAN support includes port-based VLAN and IEEE802.1Q tag-based VLAN, QinQ (Double Tag VLAN) with up to 4K items VLAN table.
Other features include Link Aggregation for WAN and LAN port, with up to 4 link aggregation groups, IEEE 802.1P QoS, Port Mirroring, Dynamic ARL Table Learning and Searching and port rate control with performance statistic for each Ethernet interface.
Local management and monitoring can be performed via the RS232 (console) port or any local ethernet port. Remote management can be done via Telnet. An embedded management channel can be used to achieve inband Data Communication Network (DCN) management enabling remote configuration, monitoring, and control (OAM). The device also supports SNMP v1 and v2 and FTP enables firmware downloads without disturbance of existing traffic.
The unit fits any 19-inch rack using 1U height and 155mm depth. Supports -48V DC, 100-240V AC or dual one 48V DC plus one 100-240V AC double power supply options. Dual -48V DC (1+1) power input is available as a special order.
The Dual STM-1 Optical Links can be used for either 1+1 optical path protection or Link Aggregation. In 1+1 mode, the ethernet traffic is transported over two separate fiber paths simultaneously and the Ethernet interfaces share one VCG. In 2+0 link aggregation mode the ethernet traffic shares two VCG channels and the bandwidth is aggregated with two (2) VC4s using Generic Framing Procedure (GFP-F, ITU-T G.7041) and EoS to double throughput.
