Media IP Transport

Media IP Transport or Media Over IP is the transmission of video, audio, and related data over and IP (Internet Protocol) network, where the IP network is serving as a backbone to move the signals around a facility or between locations. The technology "converges" multi-media and standard data to a common network infrastructure. Standards like SMPTE ST 2022 and SMPTE ST 2110 have been developed to enable interoperability between different devices and manufacturers. Media IP Transport is used in broadcasting, AV distribution, and other applications and is different from directly transporting media over Fiber. Media over IP transport eliminates the need for dedicated cables and equipment. It also enables easy reconfiguration and scalability which improves flexibility and allows for simplified workflows and is cost-effective compared to direct transmission of analog or SDI.

  • The Artel FiberLink product line offers a SMPTE ST2110 Gateway to assist in integrating a hybrid IP / Fiber network. The Fiberlink product line also now includes a family of ST2110 and ST2022-6 SFP’s to integrate additional IP workflows from your SDI network. This helps eliminate additional 3rd party products and simplifies your network connectivity as well as lowers overall cost.
  • The Artel DigiLink product line includes products that support ASI/SD/HD/3G-SDI transport over IP networks using standards based SMPTE ST2022-6 for uncompressed transport. Also available are compressed standards using TR-01 (JPEG-2000). Many products also aggregate a 1GE IP path that can be used for data transfer or remote control and monitoring of your network.
