Software Validation/Assurance Engineer
The Validation Engineer plays an integral role in the Patton Product Development Process, working closely with Product Marketing as well as with Engineering and Technical Support. The Validation Engineer ensures the overall quality of Patton products and their fitness for intended applications through systematic product validation, support of engineering design verification, and replication of use cases by taking on the customer use and application perspective.  In particular, the Validation Engineer performs automated regression testing on regular software releases and maintains and updates the test automation environment as required.

  • Design and execute Validation test plans based on documented requirements and use cases in order to ensure customer satisfaction with Patton products.
  • Perform initial and regression testing on releases of complex Linux-based software in an automated test environment.
  • Architect and build out the automated test environment to enhance the scope of testing and integrate test cases for new features.
  • Review product documentation and formulate repeatable test procedures and test cases, including writing and debugging test scripts.
  • Identify and document known issues, risks and special use cases. Report issues to Engineering and Product Marketing stakeholders. Recommend improvements to the product and modifications to use cases.
  • Assist Tech Support in reproducing and resolving customer issues. Provide Alpha and Beta customer support, when required.
  • Perform performance testing of new products as they are developed.
  • Work with software engineering to validate test releases and new features prior to a scheduled software release.
  • Maintain the test network and integrate additional test devices as required.


  • Five years of applicable work experience.
  • Thorough understanding of computer networks, including WAN and LAN data communications.
  • CCNA or comparable certification is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience using Linux with advanced networking and routing features.
  • Experience with VoIP, SIP and telephony communications is advantageous.
  • Experience in configuration of VLANs and application of network namespaces.
  • Ability to write and debug bash and expect scripts.
  • Familiarity with EXTJS is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently without specific directions and manage tasks to completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively interact with product managers and engineers.
