Description: Job Summary: The Design Integration Engineer plays a pivotal role in unifying product development, component engineering, regulatory compliance, and documentation control within Patton Electronics’ Engineering department. This cross-functional position supports the full product lifecycle—from concept through manufacturing—ensuring seamless integration of engineering processes, tools, and standards. The role also includes onboarding and integrating designs from third-party partners and acquired companies into Patton’s engineering ecosystem. Key Responsibilities: Component Engineering & Qualification: · Identify alternate sources and manage qualification of new components based on lifecycle, cost, and availability. · Support selection of critical components for new designs and cost reduction in existing ones. · Monitor and manage component obsolescence and compliance (RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals). · Maintain component data and workflows in the PLM system. PCB Design Coordination & Library Management: · Oversee layout activities in collaboration with electrical engineers and PCB designers. · Manage and maintain the component library used in ECAD tools, ensuring accuracy and consistency. · Coordinate with PCB manufacturers to ensure design intent and manufacturability. Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & Production Support: · Apply DFM principles to ensure designs are optimized for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing. · Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineering to align design intent with production capabilities. · Act as a liaison between Engineering and Production teams to ensure smooth product transitions. · Develop and maintain production documentation, including assembly drawings, test procedures, and build instructions. · Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts on the production floor. Regulatory Compliance: · Ensure product designs meet regulatory standards (UL, CE, RoHS, REACH, etc.). · Prepare and maintain documentation for regulatory submissions and audits. · Coordinate with third-party labs for compliance testing and certification. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM): · Maintain and support the Infor PLM system, ensuring data integrity and usability. · Manage the ongoing import, organization, and lifecycle tracking of engineering artifacts and documentation. · Provide user support, training, and process improvements to enhance PLM adoption and efficiency. Document Control & Process Development: · Manage creation, revision, and distribution of engineering and manufacturing documents. · Serve as the primary owner of the Engineering Change Control process, ensuring timely and accurate implementation of changes across systems and teams. · Support the definition and continuous improvement of engineering processes. · Ensure documentation aligns with internal standards and external requirements. Third-Party & Acquisition Integration: · Lead the technical onboarding of designs and documentation from third-party partners and acquired companies. · Standardize and import external design data into Patton’s PLM, ECAD, and documentation systems. · Ensure compliance with Patton’s engineering standards and processes during integration. · Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve compatibility, quality, and documentation issues.
Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. · 3+ years of experience in engineering services, PLM systems, or product development support. · Proficiency with PLM tools (Infor PLM preferred) and document control systems. · Strong understanding of electronics components, PCB design, and DFM principles. · Experience managing PCB component libraries in ECAD tools. · Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards for electronic products. · Experience integrating external or legacy designs into modern engineering systems is a plus. · Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. |
