Reaching Beyond Three Miles, Patton's New Four-Port Ethernet Extender Exploits Common Copper Network Infrastructure

5.15.2012

Patton's latest American-made innovation in Ethernet-extension technology, the CopperLink™ 1314, exploits ubiquitous twisted-pair infrastructure to interconnect LANs up to 3.4 miles apart.

GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton (www.patton.com) is now taking orders for the new US-manufactured CopperLink™ 1314 Ethernet Extender, which will start shipping later this month.

Patton's latest innovation in Ethernet Extension technology, the model CL1314, leverages ubiquitous copper-wire network infrastructure to interconnect remote LANs up to 3.4 miles apart.

When interconnecting sites on a corporate campus, buildings and network devices often lie beyond reach of a standard Ethernet segment. Featuring plug-and-play installation, Patton’s CopperLink Auto-Rate Ethernet Extender provides a simple, cost-effective solution for high-speed campus LAN extension.

The CL1314 delivers speeds up to 5.7 Mbps and extends Ethernet connections across distances ranging from 3.4 to 5.4 km (2.0 to 3.4 miles) when operating over standard 0.5 mm (24 AWG) voice-grade wiring.

The device provides four auto-sensing full/half duplex 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports with an integrated crossover switch for hassle-free system setup. An auto-rate feature ensures the fastest possible speed on each connection, while plug-‘n’-play operation gets the link up-and-running in seconds.

By supporting auto-rate adaptation, the CopperLink product line offers hassle-free set-up and operation, while achieving the highest possible line rate for the required distance and electro-magnetic environment. CL1314 users can also “hard-set” the desired line rate via DIP switches or console Telnet.

During the product-launch period, Patton is offering early-bird discounts up to 20% on orders of CL1314 two-packs in quantities of 10, 25, 50 or more when booked before the end of June 2012. For details on the promotional pricing, contact [email protected].

When connecting a remote office or private-network backbone to a corporate LAN—or interconnecting such network-enabled devices such as PCs, digital sensors and IP cameras—Patton Ethernet Extenders offer the optimum combination of speed and distance.

In other Patton news, the French carrier Bouygues Telecom has selected Patton's SmartNode media gateways for deployment in its business-class VoIP service.

Meanwhile, Patton's CEO Robert R. Patton—joined by such noteworthy speakers as former President Bill Clinton—recently addressed the 2012 Conference of the US Export-Import bank.

About CopperLink™ Ethernet Extenders
Patton has built Ethernet extenders in the USA ever since bringing the first Ethernet extender to market in the 1990s. Branded LAN-Xtend™, the Model 2111 achieved 2.3 Mbps over single twisted-pair. In 2002, Patton released the award-winning CopperLink™ 2158 that achieved speeds over 10 Mbps and reached up to 4656 feet (1372 meters). Announcing the CopperLink™ 2172 in 2006, Patton achieved full-duplex speeds up to 50 Mbps and distances reaching up to 6000 feet (1,820 meters). In 2010, Patton introduced the industry’s most versatile Ethernet Extender, the CopperLink™ 2160, capable of delivering 45 Mbps broadband Ethernet services and reaching distances up to 5.2 miles (8.3 kilometers) or more. Today CopperLink™ Ethernet Extenders are installed and operating in a vast diversity of environments, including nuclear power plants PDF icon, submarines, sports arenas, election systems, and a rock 'n' roll celebrity museum PDF icon.

CopperLink™ Hardened Industrial Solutions
Most CopperLink™ models are available in Patton's EnviroNET™ NEMA4-compliant, environmentally hardened enclosures. Suitable for installation in offshore oil rigs, pit mines, railway beds, and other harsh environments, EnviroNET™ enclosures protect network equipment against high wind, precipitation, salt spray, sand, oil, corrosive chemicals, and ice. EnviroNET™ solutions deliver communications services (Ethernet-over-copper, commercial/outdoor VoIP, T1/E1 extension, and others) in temperatures ranging from -40 to +185°F (-40 to +85°C).
