Patton Partners with DynDNS for Easier, Lower-cost VoIP Deployments

7.8.2005

DynDNS Certification for Patton SmartNode™ Cuts Cost and Complexity for Small-scale VoIP Systems and Affirms Proven High Quality

GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton, the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions, announces today that DynDNS has fully certified Patton’s SmartNode™ Model 4552 VoIP solution for interoperation with their dynamic Domain Name Service (DNS).

Certified interoperation with DynDNS greatly reduces the cost burden and complexity of implementing a VoIP system for remote-office and home-office users. By partnering with DynDNS.org, Patton has eliminated the equipment expense and configuration hassles of third-party gatekeepers or servers that would otherwise be required for small-enterprise and home-office VoIP systems.

As the world’s first and only VoIP equipment to pass the complete series of thorough and rigorous tests, SmartNode™ has earned the rare credential, DynDNS Certified. DynDNS has tested, validated, and fully certified Patton SmartNode™ in accordance with all applicable DynDNS certification programs, including Custom DNS and Dynamic DNS.

“We wanted the world to know Patton SmartNode™ works well with the DynDNS service,” said David Dibert, Patton’s Director of Technical Services, “as a way of demonstrating our commitment to delivering high-quality VoIP solutions. The independent, third-party certification confirms SmartNode’s status in the VoIP market as a proven, top-quality solution.”

Addressing the Problem
In contrast to static addressing, dynamic addressing offers convenient, cost-saving efficiency for network operators. Dynamically assigned addresses can be re-used as users log in and out of the network service, so providers can pay less for a smaller pool of network addresses. The problem for users is dynamic addressing breaks VoIP because user VoIP gear can’t keep track of the constantly changing addresses. DynDNS.org offers a free internet-based service that makes VoIP work in dynamic addressing environments. SmartNode™ users register an easily-remembered nickname with the free service. Each time the user connects to their service network, DynDNS records and correlates the new address with the user’s nickname. With DynDNS, VoIP users can address each other by nickname to make VoIP calls.

VoIP that Works - Patton with DynDNS Reduces or Eliminates VoIP Deployment Costs

Remote-Branch VoIP – Businesses with two or three branches can dramatically curtail costs for inter-office calls. Patton SmartNode™ interconnects PBX systems and handsets throughout the enterprise over a private IP network or the Internet. DynDNS eliminates expensive H.323 gateway and complicated SIP servers for an easy, affordable enterprise VoIP system.

Home-Office VoIP – SmartNode™ extends PBX services and features to the home-office workers for toll-free, IP-based communications with headquarters. DynDNS eliminates the configuration hassles or monthly charges that come with dependence on such Internet-voice services as Vonage or Skype.

Peer-to-Peer VoIP – Make free Internet phone calls to friends and family from home or office. With SmartNode™ and DynDNS, customers can grow their own personal VoIP service in privacy and security, unencumbered by the limitations of third-party VoIP providers.

“We know SmartNode™ is more than just talk,” said Ramon Felder, SmartNode™ Product Manager. “SmartNode™ is VoIP that works. Ask anybody who has deployed a SmartNode. For more than six years providers and businesses have been running SmartNode™ solutions in their live networks. By awarding SmartNode™ the DynDNS certified credential, DynDNS.org has added their voice to the crowd.”

More Plusses
SmartNode™ with DynDNS accelerates VoIP deployments by enabling network administrators to remotely monitor and configure dynamically-addressed SmartNodes from a central operations center or while traveling. Engineers can securely manage any dynamically-addressed SmartNode™ over the Internet from any location around the world. For SmartNode™ users, DynDNS enables such applications as remote-desktop, web-hosting, and FTP-service. DynDNS further expands and enhances Patton’s support capabilities because customers can give Patton staff remote access for hands-on technical assistance over the Internet.
