Patton Expands EtherBITS™ Device Server Line1.27.2006 Patton’s new EtherBITS™ single-port solutions offer low-cost 10Base-T and WiFi options for reliable network connections to RS-232 devices. EtherBITS™. . . Connect with Confidence GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton Electronics—the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions—has expanded their EtherBITS™ line of serial device servers with two low-cost options for connecting RS-232 devices to Ethernet networks. The Model 2232 provides a wired 10Base-T connection while the Model 2211 delivers a wireless IEEE 802.1b WiFi connection. Both models support open-standard TCP/IP with serial RS-232 data rates up to 115 kbps. The EtherBITS™ family of single-port serial device servers offers network managers reliable and cost-effective solutions for connecting a vast range of serial devices (payment terminals, access-card readers, meters, sensors, etc.) to the Internet or a private IP network. Today’s announcement follows the release of Patton’s EtherBITS™ Model 2285 last month and expands the EtherBITS™ family to a total of four members. Patton’s three new EtherBITS™ device servers add new options to Patton's popular and tiny-yet-powerful Model 2120 single-port terminal server, building on their 20 years of experience in developing network-connectivity solutions. "Patton truly appreciates our enthusiastic community of loyal customers," said John Grant, product manager for the EtherBITS™ brand. “Giving our customers more choices that meet Patton’s high quality standards is just one way we can show our appreciation.” The EtherBITS™ Model 2232 includes PPPoE which supports a broadband DSL connection to the Internet or a private IP network. The EtherBITS™ Model 2211 supports both Ad Hoc and Infrastructure mode as well as WEP security. The new EtherBITS™ units are easy to configure and operate, offering such versatile management options as serial console, Telnet, and a built-in windows GUI utility. All EtherBITS™ Models include a built-in DHCP client to streamline installation by automatically obtaining an IP address from a networked DHCP server. With built-in COM-port redirection software, the new EtherBITS™ Models avoid the expense of an additional software license, which is often required to connect a device server to a PC’s COM port.
