Patton Builds Low-Cost, High-Security DMZ Router5.22.2006 Patton's three-port, web-managed VPN router simplifies DMZ setup and firewall configuration while providing business-class security and QoS—at very low cost. IPLink™ WAN Routers… link up for less GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton Electronics—the leader in network-access, connectivity, and VoIP solutions—announces today their very-low-cost, three-port, managed-VPN router that streamlines DMZ implementation and secure-firewall configuration for enterprise networks. The Model 2823 is the newest member of Patton's IPLink™ Model 2800 Series of very-low-cost managed-VPN routers. Featuring three 10/100 Ethernet ports and browser-based management, the Model 2823 DMZ Secure Router makes it easy—and inexpensive—for organizations to isolate their web servers in a secure demilitarized zone (DMZ). The new Patton router provides three physically and logically separated connections, one for a private LAN, one for a DMZ, and one for secure business-class Internet access with traffic-shaping services. Because its three-port design (with DynDNS, VLAN, and NAT) can support a wide variety of network applications and topologies, the low-cost model 2823 gives enterprise-network administrators unusual flexibility for a minimal capital outlay. "Security is a huge concern for today's businesses and service providers," said Joseph Gomez, Senior Product Manager. "Yet security solutions can be painfully complicated. Patton offers a simpler solution. Adding a third port to a powerful yet low-cost router platform lets you put a cluster of web servers on a separate Ethernet segment using public IP addresses. It's a lot easier to set up. Plus it cuts congestion on the private network. It's one more way Patton helps our customers 'link-up for less'." The DMZ connection adds an extra layer of protection for users and computers located on a company's private network, behind the model 2823's built-in firewall. Besides the increased security, Patton's DMZ router improves network efficiency by keeping public Internet traffic off the private LAN. "We're talking instant relief from complex network configurations," said Scott Whittle, Vice President of Product Management. "Our new router means fewer security headaches for network admins. Now companies can afford to run their web sites—even shopping carts—with higher efficiency, and without security worries. Our sales channels to the enterprise market are going to love this router!" Triple-Port Power. With a two-port router, firewall configuration requires numerous complex rules that selectively allow certain types of Internet traffic onto the private network. Not only is the approach time-consuming, it can compromise corporate security, and increase congestion on the private network. The three-port model 2823 reduces the number and complexity of firewall rules by physically separating the DMZ on its own sub-network. With fewer and simpler rules, the firewall is much easier to configure. Network operators can use the Model 2823's secure VPN tunneling feature to securely manage servers and computers located within the DMZ. Business-class Security and QoS. With such business-class security mechanisms as VPN tunnels and IPSec strong encryption, AES/DES keys and Internet Key Exchange (IKE), the Model 2823 keeps private information private as it traverses the Internet. As a member of the IPLink Managed VPN Router family, the model 2823 delivers a robust set of QoS and traffic-shaping features that prevent non-business traffic, as well as bandwidth-thirsty voice and video, from impeding mission-critical communications. For IP phones on the office LAN, prioritized traffic scheduling with standard upstream and Patton's DownStreamQoS™ protect broadband voice quality while making sure important data goes through. With IPlink's powerful QoS services operating on all three ports, the Model 2823 can manage traffic priority for the entire enterprise. About IPLink Managed VPN Routers The very-low-cost IPLink™ Model 2800 Series of Managed VPN Routers provides business-class traffic-prioritization and secure, private communications for remote-office, home-office, and mobile users. The routers implement IPSec Strong Encryption (AES, 3DES) with IKE for data integrity, authentication, anti-replay, and data confidentiality. Firewall capabilities include Access Control Lists (ACLs), IP-address and port filtering, and denial-of-service (DoS) protection. For additional security measures, PPP/PPPoE support with PAP and CHAP provides authentication services. QoS features include ToS/DiffServ marking and eight configurable service-class tags per IEEE 802.1p/Q. With IP traffic-scheduling and shaping, dedicated bandwidth profiles per flow, configurable burst tolerance, and traffic policing with excess traffic discard, the IPLink VPN Routers ensure such delay-sensitive traffic as voice and video get the priority they require. For media-rich content, configurable IP, PPP, and Frame-Relay fragmentation minimizes jitter.
