Patton to Discuss Maryland Defense and Aerospace Consortium with Office of Congressman Anthony Brown1.31.2019 Staff members from the office of Honorable Anthony Brown will discuss small business opportunities stemming from the new Maryland Defense and Aerospace Consortium in a meeting with Patton and the Maryland Manufacturers COOP PATTON… Let's Connect!
The new consortium is expected to foster expanded collaboration among Maryland's small businesses, universities, and the Department of Defense (DoD). “The purpose of the consortium is threefold,” Brown said. “Purpose one is creating networking opportunities between firms while strengthening the partnership between academia and aerospace and defense industries. UMCP is our flagship program. There are a number of fellowships and internships between industry and the university. We’d like to strengthen and expand those relationships.” University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) is well-known as an academic leader in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The second tenet of the consortium is to engender best practices. Brown plans to launch a series of seminars (the first will cover data security) where large companies can teach smaller firms best practices in hiring, cyber security, and supply-chain management when doing business with government agencies. The third area Brown hopes to address is connecting industry with K-12 schools. “We look forward to learning more about the consortium and working with Congressman Brown’s office," said Buddy Oliver, Vice President of Business Development at Patton." Mr. Oliver will join the meeting tomorrow, Friday, February 1st. "This collaboration is expected to expand Maryland's role in driving technology innovation within the Department of Defense and other government entities," Mr. Oliver added. Known as a "micro-multi-national" company, Patton's world headquarters is located in the Washington, DC area. Patton conducts hardware and software engineering, manufacturing, marketing and publishing operations—all under one roof—in its Gaithersburg, Maryland facility. The US government employs Patton's FiberPlex products to achieve several objectives:
