Among the casualties stemming from the emergency, was the administrative telephone and computer network for the Union of Municipalities Modena Area North (UCMAN).

To restore connectivity among the region’s eleven public administrative offices, UCMAN employed a system integrator: ATS Group SpA.

The new VoIP-based network, which ATS designed, went live in October 2012, and supports 800 users.

To VoIP-enable the PRI lines at each of the eleven branch offices, SmartNode media gateways from Patton were deployed.   >>get the detailsicon indicates PDF file (4-page PDF).

The system design ensures business continuity in the event of disaster by leveraging a special feature in SmartNode VoIP Media Gateways: SIP registrar.

In case of IP-network failure, SmartNode also provides a fallback connection to the PSTN for the registered VoIP phones, with such essential telephone services as call routing and call groups, as well as emergency telephony services for each location.  >>read moreicon indicates PDF file

Michel Balabio, Patton's Vice President of Sales for Western Europe, offered his thoughts about the project:

“In such a challenging situation, the recovery plan for reestablishing communication services has been of primary importance. . .  Because of its social aspect—and the delicacy of the scenario in which our products are implemented—this project represents one of Patton’s most rewarding projects for 2012. We especially want to thank ATS SpA—who has always been one of our most active VoIP technology partners in Italy—for their professionalism."

According to Stefano Carlini, Business Development Manager for ATS Business Unit Network Collaboration Solutions:

“We chose the Patton SmartNode SN4940 for this difficult project in order to guarantee maximum reliability—which in today’s market professional VoIP systems absolutely must offer. Whenever we to plan and deploy VoIP and UC&C solutions, the extensive range of high-quality SmartNode™ models is a key factor in our customers’ strategic decisions.
